Lives and works in Canberra, Australian Capital Territory, Australia

Vivienne Binns began her career in the 1960s and had her first exhibition at Watters Gallery, Sydney.

Her work explores the meaning of being an artist within Australia’s visual landscape as she explores postcolonialism, social issues such as the status of women in society and in a broader role the status of art.

Binns received the Order of Australia Medal for her contribution to art, craft and community; the Ros Bower Memorial Award and the Australian Artists Creative Fellowship. Her work is held in major museums and collections throughout Australia. In 2008 a national survey of her work was exhibited in Tasmania, Victoria and NSW.
